The Holy Spirit: Bearing Fruit That Lasts
Bible Verse: “I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain.” [John 15:16]
Reflection
Before our Lord Jesus Christ entered into His agony, He took time to teach, strengthen, and prepare His disciples. He reminded them that their calling was not only to follow Him, but to bear fruit, fruit that would last. Jesus made it clear that fruitfulness is essential to the Christian life. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down, while every branch that bears fruit is pruned to bear even more (Matthew 7:19; John 15:2).
God sends us into the world with a purpose: to bear good fruit by living lives that glorify Him and by spreading the Gospel. However, this kind of fruitfulness cannot be achieved by human effort alone. It is only possible through the power and indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul teaches that when the Holy Spirit truly lives in us, He produces visible fruit in our lives, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). These fruits reflect the very character of Christ. Paul further exhorts believers to “walk as children of light,” producing fruit in goodness, righteousness, and truth, and seeking what pleases the Lord (Ephesians 5:9–10).
Many believers desire to please God but struggle with weakness, temptation, discouragement, and inconsistency. Without the Holy Spirit, our good intentions quickly fade. Today’s devotion reminds us that fruitfulness flows from intimacy with the Spirit. When we allow Him to lead us daily, our lives begin to change, and the fruit of righteousness becomes evident to all.
Prayer
O Holy Spirit,
I desire to live a life that pleases God, yet many times my weaknesses overwhelm me. When I want to draw closer to God, distractions and temptations push me away. There are moments I want to pray, yet I find no strength. In times of trial, fear and worry pull me down.
I need You in my life, my beloved Spirit. Never abandon nor forsake Your son/daughter (mention your name). Help me to bear lasting fruit. Help me to touch lives and make me an instrument of Your grace. Do not allow me to wander away from You.
You are all I have. Today, I bring before You the things that keep drawing me away and filling me with worry (mention your intentions). I lay them at Your feet, trusting fully in Your power to deliver me and answer me. Amen.
God richly bless you for reading. Please dont forget to share to bless others.
