Revelation 2:4
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.

Valentine's Day often centers around romantic love, but for us as believers, it’s a perfect reminder of the First Love (the love God has for us). It is a love that surpasses all understanding, unconditional and unchanging. Before we knew what love was, God loved us.

In Revelation, the church in Ephesus was commended for their hard work and perseverance, but they were rebuked for forsaking their first love—the pure love they once had for God. This verse serves as a reminder for us to return to the first love that brought us into relationship with God in the first place: His unconditional, self-sacrificial love for us.

God’s love for us is the foundation of our salvation. It was not our love for Him, but His love for us that sent Jesus to the cross (1 John 4:10). The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 5:8 that "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." This is the essence of God’s first love—it precedes our actions, our good works, our feelings.

Unlike human love, God’s love never falters. We may struggle with doubt, with sin, or with unfaithfulness, but God’s love remains steadfast. Jeremiah 31:3 says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love." No matter where we are or what we have done, God love is constant.

The love God has for us demands a response. We can honor God by keeping that love central in our lives. We are called to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37). As we reflect on God’s amazing love for us today, may we recommit ourselves to Him and remember that His love is not just a distant memory, but it is rather alive in us through Jesus Christ.

As I drop my pen, I want you to know that, the love that God pours into our lives is not meant to stay there; it is meant to overflow to those around us. Jesus taught us in John 13:34-35 that the world will know we are His disciples by our love for one another. This love is sacrificial, forgiving, and patient, just as God’s love is for us.

As you reflect on this day, take a moment to think about the depth of God's love. How can you return to your first love and allow His love to flow through you to others?

SAY THIS: Dear Lord, Help us to rekindle our first love for You, to respond to Your love with all our heart, and to share that love with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you for reading.
Please don't forget to share to bless others.

Happy Valentine's Day ❤️❤️❤️
