God’s Mercies Are New Every Morning Meaning

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. His mercies are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Every time we wake up, God’s mercies are new. This is another way of showing us that God’s mercy will never run out. Regardless of how often you rely on God’s compassion, there will be more for you tomorrow.

Now, this isn’t a get out of hell free card that we can abuse. It’s not a license to sin however we want. That’s missing the point of the meaning of Lamentation 3:22-23. Rather, this is an opportunity to return to God even after we screw up.

Ephesians 2:4-5 – “But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved.”

Titus 3:5 – “He saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit.”

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” - Hebrews 4:15-16

So we don’t need to worry about God’s mercy running dry. God’s mercies are new every morning.
